Language Literacy and Numeracy Policy (LLN)

Introduction

The Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Policy was formulated taking cognisance of the 2025 Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld) and the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Qld). The purpose of the LLN Policy is to ensure the College identifies prospective learners' LLN skill levels and provides appropriate support to those who require it.

The College is committed to maintaining a learning environment that supports the individual needs of learners and does not discriminate against any learner or potential learner who identifies as having low LLN skills. The College utilises various methods to assess learners' LLN skills.

Scope and Application+

This policy applies to all learners and potential learners of course programs offered by the College.

Overview+

The College's primary purpose is the provision of quality vocational education and training programs to learners, which includes identifying and supporting learners' Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) needs.

The College screens the LLN skills of all prospective learners prior to or at the point of enrolment to determine if they have the required LLN skill levels for the course or if they require additional support.

The College will apply this policy consistently and fairly across all programs and any learner or prospective learner enrolled into or applying for a program at the College.

The College will not mislead any learner or prospective learner about their LLN skill suitability for a course, and will provide honest guidance and referral to appropriate support services where required.

Policy+

The College has developed and implemented procedures to ensure that the LLN needs of all learners and prospective learners are identified and appropriately managed in a fair, confidential, and non-discriminatory manner.

The College will:

  • Ascertain the LLN skill levels of prospective learners prior to or at the point of enrolment
  • Determine if learners have the required LLN skill levels for the course and/or need additional support
  • Ensure learners are made aware of LLN support services available to them
  • Treat all LLN assessment results as confidential
  • Maintain a non-discriminatory learning environment for all learners regardless of LLN skill level
  • Ensure trainers and assessors follow the College's LLN procedures when delivering training and assessment
  • Make this policy available to all learners and prospective learners via the College website
  • Maintain professional links with LLN support service providers to facilitate appropriate referrals
